How to create a credential to use in backup
Credentials allow you to centrally store the accounts needed to access cloud services, FTP, Microsoft 365, SQL Server, and network locations.
You can create them before the job from the Backup > Credentials section or during configuration, when the interface allows it.
Procedure for adding a credential
- open Backup > Credentials
- select the account type
- enter a recognizable name
- fill in the authentication data
- run the account test, if available
- save the credential
How to create a repository
A repository is a pre-configured destination that includes an account, service, and storage location.
You can use it to quickly select the destination in new jobs, avoiding repeating the same configuration each time.
Procedure for creating a repository
- open Backup > Repositories
- select the destination type
- enter a descriptive name
- select a saved credential
- click Connect
- choose the folder, bucket or path
- save the repository
Tip: Use names that clearly identify the customer and the destination, for example “Customer Smith – Iperius Storage S3”.
Step 3: How to schedule your backup
In the Scheduling phase you can decide whether to run the job manually only or create an automatic schedule.
Scheduling can be configured:
- every certain number of minutes
- every hour
- daily
- weekly
- monthly
- annually
How to choose the right frequency
Consider:
- how often the data changes
- the criticality of the information
- the expected duration of the operation
- network speed
- the available space
- computer usage times
- the available operating window
For heavier jobs, it’s best to choose a time when your device and network are least used.
Step 4: Check the summary and save
In the Summary phase, check all the settings before saving.
Verify:
- the selected source
- the elements to be protected
- the destination
- the credential or repository used
- the configured schedule
Then give the job a clear name, for example:
- Daily backup of server documents
- Drive Image PC administration
- Microsoft 365 Backup Direction
- Management SQL backup
- Production Hyper-V backup
Finally, click the save button. The job will be added to the device’s backup list.
Is it advisable to take a test right away?
After saving the configuration, it is advisable to perform at least an initial manual test.
At this stage, simply verify that the job can start and that the source and destination are reachable. Detailed review of results, statistics, alerts, and logs is covered in the backup management guide.
